Dreaming of Island escapes? If you love sunny days, endless beaches and the ocean, Aruba is a great fit for you! Located in the Southern Caribbean Sea about 15 miles from Venezuela and south of the hurricane belt, this “One Happy Island” boasts near perfect weather and warm waters year-round. The 80-degree temperatures are offset by refreshing trade winds. The crystal-clear turquoise water rolls over endless white sand beaches skirting much of this 20-mile-long island. Even the island has smaller islands worthy of visits, such as Renaissance Island or De Palm Island. And the sunsets, well - they are stunning works of art. Not only is this an amazing place to vacation, but those working in tourism in Aruba clearly embrace their role in making Aruba “One Happy Island” with constant smiles, helpful attitude, and pride in their Island. Our family loved Aruba!

Aruba is one of those rare places that works for everyone in the family. Parents want calm, safety, and good food. Others want a little adventure, walkable beaches, and maybe a nightlife option or two. The good news is that you can find all of that on this small, sunny island—if you choose the right area to stay. Below is a simple guide to the main areas of the island. If you want to read about where we stayed in Aruba and why, check “Our Favorite Places to Stay in Aruba” blog.

Palm Beach: Lively, Walkable, and Resort‑Heavy

Palm Beach is Aruba’s main high‑rise hotel strip. Think long, soft beach sand, calm water, and a boardwalk lined with big resorts, shops, and casual dining. This location is best for families with teens and adult children who like energy, easy access to restaurants, and a “no car needed” feel.

Why it works for wellness‑focused families

  • Walkability: You can walk to breakfast, the beach, yoga on the sand and dinner without ever getting into a car.

  • Calm water: Great for gentle swimming, paddleboarding, and low‑stress water play.

  • Options for everyone: Parents can relax under a palapa while adult kids try jet skis, snorkeling trips, or sunset cruises.

Keep in mind that it is busier and can feel crowded, especially in peak season. Nightlife and music can run late near some hotels—great for some, not for light sleepers.

Eagle Beach: Quieter, Wide Sands, and a Slower Pace

The 2026 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards recognized Aruba’s Eagle Beach as the #3 “Best Beach in the Caribbean.” It has low‑rise hotels, wide stretches of sand, and a more relaxed feel than Palm Beach. This location is best for families who want a calmer, more spacious beach but still be close to restaurants and activities.

Why it works for wellness‑focused families

  • Space and quiet: Easier to find a peaceful spot to read, walk, or meditate by the water.

  • Great for walks: Long, flat shoreline for morning or sunset walks with the whole family.

  • Close but not crowded: Short taxi or bus ride to Palm Beach if you want more action.

Because it is a more relaxed location, there are fewer on‑site activities than the big Palm Beach resorts and you may need to walk a bit farther or take a short ride to reach some restaurants and shops.

Oranjestad: Culture, History, and Cruise‑Port Energy

Oranjestad is Aruba’s capital, with colorful Dutch‑Caribbean buildings, shops, and the main cruise port. Staying in the capital is best for those who enjoy walking through town, shopping, and mixing beach time with local culture. It is the location closest to the airport as well.

Why it works for wellness‑focused families

  • Cultural mix: Easy access to local food, markets, and historic sites.

  • Walkable town: Great for families who like to stroll, explore, and people‑watch.

  • Flexible base: You can stay in town and take short rides to beaches during the day.

Keep in mind that at this location, it is often not a pure “step‑out‑onto‑the‑sand” beach area. In addition, cruise‑ship days can feel crowded and commercial.

Noord and Residential Areas: Villas and Quiet Neighborhoods

The Noord area and nearby neighborhoods offer many vacation rentals and small boutique properties. This area is best for larger families or groups who want a villa, kitchen, and more privacy.

Why it works for wellness‑focused families

  • Space to spread out: Great for multi‑generation trips—everyone gets a room and shared living space.

  • Kitchen access: Easier to cook simple, healthy meals and snacks.

  • Quieter nights: Often more peaceful than the main hotel strips.

Because of the location you will likely need a rental car or be comfortable with taking taxis. It is possible that beach access may require a short drive rather than a quick walk.

Parting Thoughts

Aruba makes it easy to blend rest, movement, and connection whether you choose a lively resort on Palm Beach, a quieter stretch on Eagle Beach, or a villa tucked into a neighborhood. The key is matching the location to your style:

  • Do you recharge in quiet or in the middle of the action?

  • Do you want to walk everywhere or don’t mind driving?

  • Is your focus mostly beach time, or do you want culture and town life too?

Once you answer those questions, “where to stay” in Aruba becomes much clearer—and your family can focus on what matters most: shared memories, good conversations, and time in the sun together. Remember, you can always split your trip between more than one place to stay! Our family chose to stay at a hotel in Oranjestad, then moved to a condo at a resort across the street from Eagle Beach. Read “Our Favorite Places to Stay in Aruba” blog.

A quick trip to Booking.com, Hotels.com, TripAdvisor, or Expedia will generate numerous hotels and resort options throughout the island, so I won't list a bunch here. On those websites you can sort the hotels using filters, such as ratings, cost, amenities, etc. Once you narrow it down, I encourage you to read someone's online blog about staying in that particular hotel.
